Lansing Area

Lansing, the capitol city of Michigan, offers a wide variety of tourist attractions.  The State Capitol building was constructed in 1879, and guided tours are offered six days a week.  The Michigan Library and Historical Center includes the Michigan Historical Museum, the Library of Michigan, and the State Archives of Michigan.  New exhibits at the Michigan Historical Museum include a replica of a copper mine and the production line of the 1957 Detroit Auto Show.
East Lansing is home to Michigan State University and its MSU Spartans.  Big Ten Football is the rage come fall, while other campus highlights include the Michigan State University Museum and the Kresge Art Museum, featuring over 5,000 years of art.

There are several other tourist attractions in the city.  The R.E. Olds Transportation Museum features Lansing-made automobiles and was recently recognized as one of the 10 best small automobile museums in the country.  Lansing's own boys of summer, the champion minor league baseball team, the Lansing Lugnuts, play in downtown's new Oldsmobile Park.  The Potter Park Zoo is home to more than 200 species of animals, including many rare and endangered species.
