PESHEKEE HIGHLANDS

The Peshekee Highlands are an area of rolling uplands, with thin or nonexistent soils, in the western UP.  Few good roads traverse this area, which is mostly wooded with a few lakes.

On the digital elevation model shown below, the Peshekee Highlands are located in the vicinity of the "X"

The Peshekee Highlands have thin soils over hard, crystalline bedrock.  Past glaciers have scraped this landscape "clean", leaving little drift behind for the soils to form in.  Thus, areas of bare rock are commonplace.
